Pregnancy & Birth: The Stuff Nobody Talks About
*The event has already taken place on this date: Wed, 09/07/2022
Being a new mother, or preparing to become one, raises a million new questions. And sometimes we're too nervous or embarrassed to ask them. At Candelen, we believe no question should be taboo or uncomfortable. Join our Facebook Live event "Pregnancy & Birth: The Stuff Nobody Talks About" to get answers to all of the commonly NOT asked questions surrounding pregnancy and childbirth.
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
- What does it feel like to give birth?
- Is it safe to have sex while pregnant?
- My body is changing in ways I didn't expect. Is that normal?
- I don't feel anything for my baby. Will I be a bad mother?
- How can I shift my mindset in the event that my birth plan goes wrong?
- I feel a lot of pressure to have a natural birth and to breastfeed, but I'm not sure how I feel about either. What do I do?
- What happens if I poop while I'm giving birth?

Join our Facebook live-streamed event "Pregnancy & Birth: The Stuff Nobody Talks About" to get answers to all of the commonly NOT asked questions surrounding pregnancy and childbirth. Our facilitator—Ashleigh Leonard, Coach Supervisor at Candelen and mother of three—will dive deep into some "taboo" topics with our expert panelists—Dr. Jennie Bever, Gila Shire, and Kavita Bernstein.
Dr. Jennie Bever, Executive Director and CEO of 4th Trimester Arizona, has an intense desire to help other moms and babies reach their breastfeeding goals. A breastfeeding researcher, Jennie holds an appointment as Assistant Research Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. When she's not chasing little ones, Jennie enjoys gardening, music, and spending way too much time on social media.
A holistic birth advocate, Gila Shire has been a traditional doula, nurse, birthkeeper, yoga instructor, and massage therapist for over 20 years in both Germany and the United States. Her passion for birth and massage is simple: educate women and their families to guide them through the most precious time of their lives so that birth, a physiological, undisturbed and sacred rite of passage, will find its way home.
Kavita Bernstein in the Director of Relationships + Solutions at Candelen. She has worked in the behavioral health, early childhood health, and public health sectors for over 20 years, working directly with children and their caregivers, as well as on the programmatic and system levels. Kavita and her husband have two sons and live in Arizona.
Ashleigh Leonard has been described as having the warmth and comfort of freshly baked bread. She is the mom of three; two boys who are entering the tween years, and a very strong, opinionated 2-year-old girl. Ashleigh is always up for a coffee date, road trip, or just a good conversation.
