A Bend in the River - An Exhibit at the Pink Palace Museum & Mansion
To celebrate our country’s 250th birthday, Tennessee has launched a year-long statewide celebration to honor and recognize the people, places and events that define Tennessee’s contributions to America. The Pink Palace Mansion and Museum has produced a new exhibition, on view Aug 1-Oct 25. With a focus on the early history of Memphis, when it was viewed as a frontier flatboat town, the gallery will explore the founding of Memphis in 1819 up to the “flatboat rebellion” of 1842. Featured events and historic figures include Andrew Jackson, Marcus Winchester, David Crockett, Frances Wright’s Nashoba, Chickasaw leader George Colbert, and the forced Indian removal through Memphis.
