*The event has already taken place on this date: Wed, 08/05/2020
America’s greatest conflict – the Civil War – indelibly changed the nation and its people, paving the way for cultural change inconceivable in the days before the war. In GCV&M's webinar series, “Beyond the War: The Struggle for Enfranchisement, Security, Health & Peace in 1860’s America” we discuss some of the critical changes that echoed throughout our nation, and the reverberating legacies that still pervade daily life. Join us each Wednesday during the month of July as we take an in-depth look beyond the battles of the American Civil War.

"Some events so pervasively condition the life of a culture that they retain the power to fascinate permanently. They become the focus of myth and the anchor of meaning for a whole society. (Ken and Ric Burns, 1990)
